So that’s the end of the group stages. Netherlands finish bottom of the table but that doesn’t tell their whole story. Nobody gave them a prayer to even qualify for this WC, they came to India without much practice, seeking for net bowlers from the Indian domestic circuit. They would have hardly played in such conditions, and not many expected much from them. But these bunch of fighters upset the apple cart by beating South Africa and Bangladesh. At one stage, they were genuinely dreaming of the semis as well. So the Dutch can fly back home with their heads held high. Hopefully, a country that has idolized Arjen Robben and Virgil van Dijk can look towards Scott Edwards or Bas de Leede too in the years to come.

Rohit Sharma India Captan:

For us, it’s been about one game at a time, just playing that game well and focusing on one game at a time. We never looked too far ahead because it’s a long tournament. We have to play that one game, break it down and make sure we get that game right. That is what everyone did. That’s exactly what we did. Because you play in different venues and different conditions, you gotta adapt and play accordingly so that’s what I am. In the nine games we’ve played here, we have been very pleased with how we have been playing. From game one till today very clinical.

We have to credit the fact that it hasn’t always been the same people taking the lead. It’s a good thing when everyone is taking the responsibility and wants to do the job on behalf of the team. We play a lot of cricket in India, we know the conditions, but we did know conditions and still had to come out and face different opposition in different conditions we adapted really well we went four games in a row that were all chased then we had to bat first and put the runs on the board and then, seamers did the rest with the spinners.

The results do matter so keeping the dressing room somewhat lively is important. We kept everything aside, put everything aside, and wanted to keep everything aside for future and focus on job at hand. Everyone bought into that. But when the tournament began we were able to enjoy the company of one another. We wanted to play the game wth a lot of fun, excitement and this was coming through in our performance.

Scott Edwards Natherland Captain:

We played two good games of cricket, gave ourselves opportunities in other games which we’d have liked to win. Little bit of a tricky one to say where we were compared to where we wanted to be. We were pretty confident with the style we play. Coming into the tournament, we knew it’s going to be a tough tournament. Playing against India, they’re as good a side as there is going around. We’ve got a lot to learn, lot to get better before the T20 World Cup next year. They (India) showed pure class with the bat, there’s plenty to learn off that.

There were periods where we bowled well, they just soaked up the pressure. If you’re three down with 10 overs to go, you’re gonna make some runs. They are going to be an extremely hard side to beat in this tournament. We are a very young side, lot of young guys in the set-up, it is about growth for us. We’ve got some training camps and things like that’s coming up. In terms of fixtures, not that sure.

Shreyas Iyer, Player of the Match:

Deja vu, Australia did it too, now I threw my wicket away (not today), but this time I wanted to come not out. I took pills for the cramps. I think the last few scores helped me in this innings. It had come on a bit, the wicket was tacky and two-paced, I just wanted to capitalise on the start and I was able to do that. I spent a lot of in (straight) front work, it was just to hit him. I’m trying to keep the head straight there, and about the followthrough of the bat when I’m trying to play the slog shot.
